Senior Team leader – Research Informatics & Compound Management

To meet the LEO Pharma R&D 2025 ambitions within digitalization, the Research Informatics & Compound Management team have embarked on a journey to ensure our researchers have the right research software tools and a solid data foundation for the future. We have initiated a complete upgrade of the data management environment supporting the Research area at LEO Pharma in close collaboration with Global IT and expert users within e.g. chemistry, biology and compound logistics. This exciting and challenging endeavor is ongoing but we need you to lead the team going forward by paving the way and supporting the team to perform at their best.


The role

Your overall focus in this role will be to lead the Research Informatics & Compound management team towards a more digitized future. In addition you will be overall responsible for the research data infrastructure as well as keeping effective oversight of research specific software tools & platforms.

Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Lead a team of 7 dedicated and highly specialized experts with diverse scientific and technical backgrounds, ensuring high performance and a positive working environment
  • Take responsibility for the cross functional relation between Research and Global IT, including maintaining a strategic and operational overview of ongoing tasks & projects
  • Ensure a continuous dialogue with leaders and experts within chemistry, biology, bioinformatics and compound logistics to ensure their needs for research specific informatics support are met
  • Guide the team in the implementation of new software tools and platforms in cooperation with scientific experts, Global IT and external vendors, ensuring there is a match between user needs, established data and system processes as well as R&D priorities
  • Maintain a focus on strategic long term research data management as well as cross organizational IT project execution, with an eye for the flexibility/agility needed in a research setting while still keeping a focus on timely delivery and budgets
  • Align with cross functional digitalization initiatives, to ensure team activities support the overarching advanced R&D analytics initiatives

The team is also responsible for the research Compound Management function and hence the support of the underlying logistics of storing and delivering both small molecules and antibodies to the whole Research organization for performing in vitro and in vivo experiments.

The role therefore offers the challenge of managing a diverse client landscape across research with different data needs and a diverse team with different backgrounds and expertise as well as internal and external collaborators and partners.


+5 years’ experience working in pharmaceutical R&D and proven leadership capabilities

You hold a university degree in natural sciences - preferably within Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biology or Computer Science - or you have gained similar expertise from working within a Research Informatics unit in pharma.

In addition you have:

  • Experience leading an IT / data management focused team successfully, either as project leader or in a team leader role
  • A proven track record of driving IT projects in pharma R&D or similar environments - hence delivering within complex research matrix organizations 
  • Experience in collaboration across organizations as well as with external software vendors
  • Understanding of software development and implementation in a changing and flexible research environment is an advantage but software development skills (coding) is not a requirement

On the personal level, you must thrive in an innovative and research driven environment, have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and collaborate across disciplines and organizational areas. You must have a solution oriented and agile mindset, and a natural interest in delivering support to the users / customers in Research. At the same time the leadership role will require courage, stepping up to address challenges as needed.

Your new team consists of 7 skilled and dedicated colleagues in the LEO Pharma headquarters in Ballerup, Greater Copenhagen. Our focus is to enable the LEO research function to break new land in their Research and by that help patients with skin diseases to achieve a better life. We do so via implementation of best-in-class systems and processes across compound handling, data management, informatics solutions and software.
